Anicca
The Buddha stressed the fact of Anicca
(Impermanence). This is one of the three characteristics of
existence. Everything is subject to change. Humans without a
background in Historical Geology expect rivers, mountains,
climate, and other features of the earth to remain constant. We need to
accept that all features of the earth are in a state of flux. The earth
is dynamic. It is virtually alive with activity such as earthquakes,
volcanoes, and climate change.
At present there is much-a-do about climate
change and much talk about ways to stop global warming. Yes, the globe
is warming but the warming due to human activity is insignificant. The
so called ICE AGE is not over. It is still in the melting stage. It
will not be over until the glacial ice is melted off Greenland and the
Antarctic Continent.
The globe has been warming ever since
the last continental ice sheet pushed LONG ISLAND and CAPE COD off the
top of the NEW ENGLAND AREA. There were three other continental
glacial epochs in the past two million years with long periods of warming
between each advance. Humans did not cause the warming during the
previous interglacial epochs but the globe warmed. The same natural
conditions that caused warming in the past are responsible for the
present warming. No matter what man does he is not going to stop the
present warming. As in the past sea level will most likely extent the
Gulf of Mexico all the way up into Illinois.
Remember the teaching of the Buddha: All
conditioned things are subject to change.
Conditioned Things: Those things that
come into being due to a cause or causes.
